Tips for a Healthy Life Outside of Lifting

Although we love weight-based training at Lift House Fitness, we understand that our clients can’t spend 24 hours a day in the gym. Fortunately, there are several ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle outside of the gym that go beyond the “you are what you eat” standard.

Let’s take a deep dive into how you can maintain your gains without too much stress on your body between personal or group training classes.

Get Your Steps in Where You Can

Yes, we help get you on the right path of cardio with some of our program’s movements, but the fun doesn’t have to stop after you leave our classes.

Even if you aren’t someone who is prone to waking up early and going for a jog, it can be helpful to get minor cardio in where you can:

  • Park a little farther from the store you’re visiting
  • Walk in an pick up your food from a restaurant
  • If you work from home, take a few minutes every hour to walk around the house and decompress

There are countless ways you can get minor steps in, and trust us, they’ll all add up and benefit your health in the long-run.

Join a Group of Like-Minded Folks

We’ve said it before but will always spread the word when we can:

Spending time with like-minded people helps keep you on track for any goal that you set for yourself.

This is especially important when it comes to your health. So, join a routine meetup group that is focused on fitness, stay in touch with any friends you meet in our small group classes, or start training for a large event like a marathon.

All of these social interactions and more can help you create a support group that allows you to put your success first and work towards obtaining your goals outside of a gym setting.

Kiss the Shopping Cart Goodbye

If you like shopping and also want to constantly engage your core and shoulder muscles, it may be a good idea to invest in some reusable bags for those smaller shopping trips.

When you load up your shopping bags with what you need and avoid using a shopping cart, not only does walking around the store break in some cardio, but your body’s natural need to balance itself out will keep your core working and gradually increase the strength in your shoulders and grip.

Sleep Like a Champ

Sleep is essential to keeping several aspects of your health in check. From decreased risk of several serious diseases, to just helping you stay focused throughout the day, sleep is definitely something you need enough of.

Adults need 7 or more hours of sleep every night to remain healthy, but the average person falls just below that at 6.8 hours of sleep each night.

Getting decent sleep is one of the easiest ways to keep yourself fit. So, each night, get in a routine that calms you down, and achieve some powerful shut-eye.

Learn a New Activity

If you have a spouse, kids, or friends who are into learning new hobbies, take up a new activity that keeps you moving!

There are so many out there to choose from, but some of the top choices to keep you moving include:

  • Hiking
  • Skateboarding
  • Roller Skating
  • Dancing, and more!

The sky’s the limit, you just have to keep your eyes on the prize when searching for your next big hobby.
